Isaac Brown has been surrounded by music all his life, being raised by musicians and teachers. His passion was sparked at a very young age when his mum would take him to Stage Coach, where she worked, and the children's music classes she ran at the weekend. Even his evenings were filled with music, as children would filter through his living room for their piano lessons.
Inevitably, it wasn't long before Isaac Brown started learning and teaching music himself.
Inspired by his sister, who had been playing for three years before him, Isaac Brown turned his hands to the drums at the age of ten, and has been playing ever since. Academy of Contemporary Music graduate, John Joe Gaskin, has been his mentor for the past decade, pledging his advice from thirty of experience; gigging, teaching and varied session work. After a few years of lessons, dotted with Rockschool exams, Isaac Brown was soon bringing his friends into his musical home, forming a unique duo of piano and drums, taking the sounds of Passengers and Katy Perry to new heights. But it was after five years and four exams that he would gain an audience.
The Conspiracy Theorists were a Baroque Rock five-piece, staring a violinist. Isaac Brown was with the group for half a year, performing his first gig with them. Although they soon disbanded, Isaac Brown formed a long term duo with the lead guitarist, which later formed several groups. The most notable of which were an alternative pop band called Kids On Bikes. Within a quarter of a year, Kids On Bikes had recorded, produced and released an album, quickly streaming one thousand listeners per song, and broadcasts on BBC Radio Nottingham, Derby, Lincoln and Leicester. Unfortunately, the speed of their success was matched by the speed of their departure from the industry as they disbanded shortly after.
Isaac Brown takes the most inspiration from, drummer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Chad Smith. He was the first drummer Isaac Brown studied and revised, so his sound can often be heard in Browns playing. This goes as far as his preferred tuning for his snare. Often, like Smith, Brown desires a high tuned snare with a firm head to achieve highly responsive feel with a tight sound. Recently, Isaac Brown has been taking inspiration from Japanese Jazz Fusion, primarily studying the works of Josh Nesmith, drummer of Varra., though his favourite musician is Danny Elfman, of Oingo Boingo.
Isaac Brown achieved a Merit in his practical portion of his A-Level Music exams, performing a Grade 8 Rockschool piece. Second to that, he performed a Grade 8 piece for The Minster Sixth Form concert. While attending The Minster, Isaac Brown played a number of gigs in the Southwell Minster Cathedral in front of thousands of people at a time.
An achievement Brown is still proud of is passing his Grade 5 Rockschool exam without him or his tutor having a drum kit to practice on, making the exam the first time he had played on a kit in that year.
Currently, Isaac Brown is giving private drum lessons, and has done for the last four years. His longest student recently achieved a Merit on their Grade 3 exam, and is quickly working towards their Grade 4. Teaching drums has built an intuition for Brown to adapt communications and shape relationships with people of all ages, and strengthened his musical knowledge and deepened his passion for music and teaching.
Isaac Brown can often be seen gigging around Nottingham with his band, Airport Dad (formerly Citrus). The Alternative Rock group have been together since the beginning of 2022, where gigs were quick to come. Across the year, Airport Dad have had dozens of gigs across Nottingham, with several frequented venues and a number of headlining gigs. Airport Dad's proudest gigs are; The Bodega (supporting Peaness), Dot To Dot (Nottingham, 2022), and BBC Introducing, in front of 400 people.
